About the teacher

Picture of Susan Chai Ms. Chai completed her undergraduate studies in music at the University of British Columbia (UBC) where she studied with Mary Tickner and Bob Rogers. In Vancouver, Ms. Chai was also trained, as well as has taught under the Royal Conservatory of Music system. In spring of 1996, she earned her Master Degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Michigan where she studied pedagogy with Joanne Smith, and performance with Dr. Arthur Greene. From 1996 to 1999, Ms. Chai was a faculty of the Piano Pedagogy and Preparatory Program at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and in the third year served as the Associate Director at that program. Her experience includes teaching group and private piano lessons, as well as mentoring and supervising teachers in training. She has taught for over ten years. Ms. Chai has been onboard UBC Music Department since 1999, teaching class piano to music majors. Furthermore, Ms. Chai is active as an adjudicator, and also serves as the music consultant to BC Open University in the degree granting of Masters of Music in Piano Pedagogy.
